When it's cold outside and the library is closed, don't you just wish you had internet at home? Well, it might just be possible with...

Skinny JUMP

Skinny Jump is a programme designed to help more New Zealanders gain access to affordable broadband at home; providing heavily subsidised connectivity to households at risk of being digitally excluded due to cost.  Jump is a flexible pre-paid service, offering 35GB of data for just $5, a quarter of the price of the cheapest commercial services available.  And within the month you can purhcase 6 of these 35GB totalling an awesome 225GB (up from 165GB) - tau kē!!

But that's not all, an additional 15GB free is given to you at the beginning of month.  So some of you (who don't indulge in online gaming, don't stream movies online, don't spend hours on Zoom) who only do the basics like answer emails, hang out on Trademe and do your internet banking and not too much else use so little data that you may never buy top-ups!

Because it uses Skinny’s 4G wireless network there’s no fibre or landline connection and no installation cost.  No credit references or credit checks needed.

3 quick and easy steps to JUMP

1. Are you eligible?

Your household is eligible for Skinny JUMP if you identify with one or more of the following groups:

    • Families with children
    • People with disabilities
    • Refugees and migrant communities
    • Job seekers
    • Seniors
    • Those in social housing

2. Can you get JUMP at your house?

Jump is a wireless internet service and is widely available in rural and urban areas.  But unfortunately, it’s not available everywhere.

Skinny JUMP coverage checker

If you’ve got coverage, proceed to Step 3; otherwise, we suggest you look at other options here: broadbandcompare.

It's frustrating when your mate tells you about this sweet deal then when you check your address it says Skinny JUMP isn't available.  It might be that you live far far away from a cell tower, or it could be that the cell tower near your home is at full capacity, here's a little explanation:

Cell tower diagramWe know how frustrating that can be, but we can keep harrassing Skinny to add more coverage in your area, so pop your details onto our waitlist by clicking on the orange picture below and we'll check regularly on your behalf, 'cause we're lovely like that!

3. If you've got coverage...Book an appointment

Call 07 315 6170, text on 027 807 3990 or email us library@odc.govt.nz for an appointment. The process of organising the free modem for you is quick and painless and the library team can help with any other digital questions you may have.

At the library it's a 10minute process (possibly longer if you need to create a new email account) and you can take the modem away straight away, no installation required...you'll be online that day.

JUMP is subsidised by the Spark Foundation and available because of the awesome folks at Digital Inclusion Alliance Aotearoa (DIAA).
